LOCAL ATTRACTIONS AND HIKING

The Fairview Chamber of Commerce developed the Fairview Bridge and the Cartwright Tunnel into a walking trail and is located a short walk from the Yellowstone Bridge RV Park.

The Fairview Lift Bridge spans 1,320 feet across the Yellowstone River and is about 100 feet above the water level. The Great Northern Railroad began construction in 1912 and cost $500,000. Planks were placed between and outside the rails to allow automobiles to cross the bridge. The bridge served both vehicles and trains until the bridge closed for vehicle traffic in 1955 and closed for train traffic in the 1980's.

The 1,456 foot long Cartwright Tunnel is the only tunnel to North Dakota and was built in 1912 and 1913.
